THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES
It is with a heavy heart that we share with you the passing of our beloved Jimi Gaines-Bury. For 50 years her presence and contribution to our family business made a difference, and we will forever be grateful.
As a teenager she worked the snack bar and restaurant, and over the next 6 decades, she spent time in every area of the business from the front desk, developing leagues, providing lessons, accounting, and her favorite, managing the pro shop!
She may have been born with a bowling ball and bag, in hand, but her passion for bowling was real and went far beyond working in the “business”. She was on the bowling team at Lake Washington High School, and later became their coach. She was as a constant fixture on numerous leagues, most notably her ladies Renegades League on Tuesday mornings. This was a league she enjoyed with her mother and fellow Totem Bowl owner/employee Freda Gaines. She later continued the tradition by inviting her daughter Valerie to join her team.
She was fiercely competitive, and her long list of bowling achievements include the Greater Seattle triple crown, league high series, 700 series, many 600 series, league high average, and so many more.
As a promoter of bowling, she was knowledgeable, tireless, and never shy of an opinion, which is probably why she loved the Pro Shop because it was a great vehicle for her to share and teach. One of her most loved pro-shop moments is when the Seahawks football team came by to purchase bowling balls. If you asked about her pro-shop days, she would fondly recall many stories with one of her favorites when she drilled a ball for Shawn Alexander.
Jimi is survived by her children Katie Wuestenberg, husband Clayton, Brittany Gross, husband Dylan, Valerie Bury, John Bury, wife Sierra, and grandkids Wyatt Wuestenberg, Cora Wuestenberg, Adelyn Gross, and a second baby girl Gross is due any day.
As mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, colleague, neighbor, and friend, we are grateful that our paths crossed with yours Jimi, and we look forward to another 3- game set soon with you in heaven!
Thank you so VERY much Jimi! You are loved and will be missed!
